StarNav Reveals Centimeter Precision Positioning and Timing Results using Xona PULSAR Signals

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – StarNav LLC has produced the industry’s first positioning and timing results using Xona PULSAR signals.

At the ION GNSS+ 2023 conference, StarNav and Xona Space Systems demonstrated PULSAR-only 20 cm instantaneous positioning results with a StarNav receiver. StarNav produced these results by processing simulated Xona PULSAR signals output by a Safran GSG-8 GNSS radio frequency simulator.

The positioning and timing results produced by StarNav’s receiver showed simultaneous tracking of up to 13 Xona PULSAR satellites and centimeter-level positioning precision of a stationary receiver. “A receiver developer gets excited any time they see the blue dot appear on the map in a location that makes sense. These results were produced from a brand-new satellite system, signal structure, and receiver that were all individually built from the ground up. Getting all these pieces to work together with such a precise blue dot on a map speaks volumes about Xona’s PULSAR service, Safran’s simulator, and StarNav’s receiver,” said Dr. Joshua Morales, founder and CEO of StarNav LLC.

“StarNav has demonstrated that Xona PULSAR signals can be implemented on existing hardware platforms to enable high levels of PNT performance . These results also show that new PNT signals  can deliver the next generation of GNSS capabilities to support the evolution of commercial and government solutions.” said Bryan Chan, VP of Business Development at Xona Space Systems. “We are extremely excited about continuing our efforts with our ecosystem partners StarNav and Safran to enable high-performance technology products to users that require advanced PNT capabilities.”

The results shown at the conference are illustrated in the figure above. In the top-left, 13 satellites are visible during the 90 second demonstration. The bottom-left shows the resulting dilution of precision, the bottom middle shows the pseudorange measurement precision, and the top-right shows the 20 cm instantaneous positioning precision. “The results are produced from a cold start, meaning that there is no prior knowledge fed to our receiver. It simply turns on and starts ingesting Xona Pulsar signals to produce these PNT results,” said Christian Ardito, founder and CTO of StarNav LLC.

Other receivers produced by StarNav recently completed successful tests at Edwards Air Force Base and at undisclosed locations with the Army as StarNav prepares  products for military and commercial applications.
